COMPETITIONS

How good do you have to be to compete?

There are competitions for all levels, so competitions are fun for everyone from beginners to advanced dancers. There is a special level for 'newcomers' -- people who have never competed before. Competing is a blast, and our classes and team prepare you well for competitions.

Do need a partner to compete?

Yes. If you don't have a partner, contact to our rookie coordinator. You will find a partner at team practices and classes. There's no need to compete with the same person every competition, and it's certainly acceptable to dance with two people for different events during the same competition. Some team members prefer to have long-standing partnerships, while others dance with different partners in different competitions or events.

How do I prepare for a competition?

Take classes in the dances in which you want to compete. Then, come to Saturday Practice for workshops and coaching. If you have volunteered for the team, you can get a subsidized private lesson with a great professional coach. Also, we can direct you to times and locations both on- and off-campus for additional practice opportunities to get ready. Good luck!

What do I do on the competition day?

Good question. Check out the competition tips page for more details.
